PAYING
ATTENTION
TO THE
COSMIC
TUMBLERS
In the movie ‘Field of Dreams,” Ray Kinsella (Kevin Costner) quotes author Terence Mann (James Earl Jones ) as saying:
Terence Mann also laments the tragic fact that most folks aren't even aware of that opening when it occurs, so they never walk through the doors that will lead them into their life's potential.
"....I unknowingly embarked on a spiritual journey that continues to this day. The cosmic tumblers turned and clicked with the precision of a finely produced Swiss chronometer. A door was unlocked, a portal was created, and the universe opened. The potential for unimaginable opportunities was made available, and amazingly, it was intended for me." ... (From: "Spiritual Calling - Nursing Your Path, Nurturing Your Destiny" By Joe Alonzo)
In my case, the year was 1985, when all those cosmic tumblers started falling into place, and the Universe popped open. It was then, at 40 years old, that I made the conscious decision to start paying attention.
To begin with ... I grew up in Miami, Florida, and at age 19 moved to Japan for three years, where I was married to a guy in the Navy and taught English at an international language school. Tokyo was a wonderful experience and truly felt like "home" to me.
From Japan I went to Oregon, then to San Francisco for 5 years. Next came Southern California where I did a little international travel writing for magazines, managed rock bands for a couple of years, then settled into 13 comfortable years of in-person yellow pages ad sales for a local directory company.
After another difficult marriage, and the resulting divorce from a bipolar alcoholic in 1985, I finally began a more introspective approach to the way I was choosing to live.
The first 'cosmic portal' that 'appeared' was Adult Children of Alcoholics studies (my dad was an alcoholic), along with several other psychology-based classes and workshops. Next, I was inspired to take courses based on Ernest Holmes' remarkable philosophy book, "The Science of Mind" (1938), and from there I continued on into ministerial school.
An extensive series of 'coincidences' and synchronistic happenings, created an incredible shift in 1991 that catapulted me onto a path that would give my world an entirely new dimension and depth.
As mentioned in a recent post, I was suddenly and mysteriously impelled to take a leap of faith by quitting my secure and rewarding job in California and moving to Santa Fe, New Mexico, (where I knew no one) ... to give something back to the world.
Once settled in town, I walked through every door that opened and soon almost magically established a holistic center called Lightship of Santa Fe, which became the first and only organization of its kind ever to be endorsed by the city government. I also published a monthly motivational news magazine that was distributed nationally and at the Santa Fe Visitor's Bureau. The project ran from 1992-1996 and touched thousands of lives.
(By the way, the term "Lightship" refers to a state of being in which our Soul's Essence or Nature is fully embodied ... i.e. relationship with The Light, or Spirit, or God (however you personally choose). Jesus, of course, was able to accomplish this state of being, and set a blessed standard for the rest of humanity.)
Just a few weeks after finding a place to stay in Santa Fe, the following poem practically wrote itself as it flowed through my keyboard:
